Education-Based Childcare

Your Child’s Learning Journey

Learning Locomotion is dedicated to starting your child on the road to learning success with our unique educational programs. We use the Houghton-Mifflin curriculum in our preschool and pre-kindergarten classrooms. Children are assessed using the Ages and Stages developmental tool to monitor progress. All of the children enrolled in our programs are involved in field trips where they learn about being a part of our community. All students are also invited to participate in active play such as basketball, soccer, yoga, or dance.

Infant Program (6 weeks to 13 months)

Infants are constantly absorbing new things in their surroundings. That’s why they are cared for in a private setting. With cribs, rocking chairs, high chairs, and changing tables, all disinfected regularly for safety and hygiene, the room is perfect for early learning.

Each day our responsive, caring staff provide infants with sensory toys, classical music, and other tools to ensure they have ample opportunities to surpass their milestones.

Toddler Program (13 months to 36 months)

A schedule is very helpful in encouraging toddlers towards their milestones. Our lively classroom is full of age-appropriate toys and projects. We feature read-alouds, circle time, music activities, crafts, and free play each day. We encourage them to “use their words” to express their needs as a way to help them develop verbal communication skills.

You’ll be kept up-to-date with your child’s day via the HiMama app for your phone. We’ll report meals, diaper changes, nap times, developmental milestones, and send photos periodically.

Preschool Program (Ages 3-4 years)

This program is the perfect setting for your child to learn appropriate classroom behavior. Children are encouraged to learn the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, and more. We use free-play and discussion as your child discovers the world.

Our preschoolers work on:

  • Persistence
  • Following directions
  • Listening
  • Language skills
  • Problem-solving
  • Vocabulary
  • Letters and numbers
  • Spatial awareness
  • Scientific thinking
  • Early math principles
  • Music, art, dramatic play
Pre-Kindergarten (Ages 4-5 years)

Learning Locomotion prepares your child for kindergarten. We follow a routine similar to kindergarten classrooms, including discussing the weather, calendar, reading, crafts, and stations around the room. Our stations consist of a computer center, reading center, and dramatic play center. Pre-kindergarten students practice and prepare for the kindergarten entrance test for local public school districts.

Our prekindergarten students work on:

  • Staying on task
  • Learning new concepts
  • Literacy experiences
  • Following a routine
  • Language skills
  • Social interactions
  • Group activities
Before and After School Care & Summer Camp Program (Kindergarten - 6th Grade)
Learning and fun are encouraged in our Before & After School Care program. Before school, children are offered breakfast and calm games as they prepare for the school day ahead. After school, kids are offered a nutritional snack, time to do homework, and the opportunity to do arts-and-crafts.

Our Summer Camp helps children maintain their educational growth while staying entertained. Games, crafts, and socialization opportunities abound. We even take field trips to the movies, the Crayola Factory, the local pool, and more!
